Wildlife Safaris

Discover Sri Lanka's Yala, Udawalawe, and Minneriya National Parks to witness not just elephants and leopards but birds as as well. During the dry season which lasts from May to September animals congregate more often than they do at different times of the year on the lookout for water sources.

Diving

With its colourful coral reefs, ancient shipwrecks and varied marine existence Sri Lanka provides incredible diving. From November to April the southwest coast (Bentota. Hikkaduwa, Unawatuna, and Mirissa) offers the best diving at the same time in the east coast (Trincomalee, Batticaloa) gives the best diving from May to September. The reef sharks of Pigeon Island, and Mirissa’s deep-sea history with whale sharks are all well-preferred dive sites.

Surfing

Hikkaduwa, Weligama, and Mirissa at the southwest coast of Sri Lanka in addition to Arugam Bay at the east coast are popular surfing places with exceptional waves. The exceptional surfing months on the east coast are May via October whilst at the southwest coast, they're November via April.

Hiking

Trekkers can certainly hike in these famous locations which includes Adam’s Peak, Horton Plains, and the Knuckles mountain range. Because of its various terrain, Sri Lanka gives first-rate trekking possibilities. Hiking is the perfect outdoor activity from November to March when it's cooler and drier.

Zip-lining through forest canopies

Ella’s gorgeous gardens are home to Sri Lanka's first licensed giant zip line. With an almost 500-meter zip line and a speed slide which can reach speeds of over 80 mph, visitors can get an aerial view of the island's breathtaking slopes. The exceptional time to take advantage of this exciting journey is from November to April while the climate is appropriate for outdoor fun.

White Water Rafting

One of the most famous sports for island visitors is white water rafting on the scenic Kelani River. Five larger rapids and four smaller ones may be traversed. While the water tiers are ideal for a safe and exciting rafting experience, the best time to go rafting is all through the dry season which runs from December to April.

Bird Watching

With more than 400 species including migratory and endemic birds Sri Lanka is a bird watcher's paradise. From November to April the southwest coast (Kumana, Sinharaja Forest Reserve) offers the best birdwatching while May to October is when the north and east coasts (Wilpattu, Yala) offer the best views. The wetlands of Kumana which are home to numerous migratory species and the rainforest birds of Sinharaja are important locations.

Whale & Dolphin watching

Sri Lanka boasts a number of excellent places to look at whales and dolphins with well-known locations like Kalpitiya on the western coast and Mirissa at the southern coast. The best months to look at whales and dolphins are December via April whilst the seas are calm and there may be an excessive chance of seeing those notable creatures.

Elephant – Feeding, bathing, scrubbing and caring

Visitors can take part in feeding, bathing, cleansing, and caring for elephants in Sri Lanka's unique elephant encounter experiences. The exceptional locations for these types of activities are Udawalawe National Park (pleasant from November to April) and Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage (open year-round). During bath time in rivers visitors can engage with elephants, feed them and even help with daily care tasks creating memorable hands-on experiences.
